Beautiful Souls: The Courage and Conscience of Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times Highlight

We were speaking in a community that was home to a memorial park named after Rabbi Meir Kahane, the founder of the extreme right-wing political party Kach, which in the 1980s had been barred from participating in Israeli elections on the grounds of inciting anti-Arab racism. Some years earlier, a shrine had been erected to honor Baruch Goldstein, a Kahane follower who in 1994 entered the Cave of the Patriarchs and opened fire, murdering twenty-nine Muslim worshippers.
