The McMickings grew up down the street from the house of Spanish-born capitalist Enrique Zóbel de Ayala during the period preceding World War II. Zóbel de Ayala was also a senior member of the Philippine Falange—the territorial chapter of the fascist Falangist international, which contained Franco’s lead supporters on the islands.
