Two months after the sale to Google, the Wall Street Journal released a bombshell report announcing that all Facebook’s top outside apps were, contrary to the platform’s supposed rules, selling user IDs (UIDs) to third parties: FACEBOOK IN PRIVACY BREACH, the paper declared, the first of many headlines to come.54 The problem wasn’t limited to targeted ads: Online gaming analyst Kevin Flood wrote on his blog that he heard Zynga was selling customer leads from its poker game to real gambling sites for hundreds of bucks a pop.
