Resisting the temptation to hand the reins to my little pal Claude is tough some days. Is it better than me? Am I missing something? Am I just a crusty luddite holdout? These aren’t rhetorical questions. They’re real doubts I sit with.
But I’m choosing to keep publishing freely anyway – on my website, in emails, in zines – even though I can’t work out where the incentive for original content comes from if we’re all just feeding LLMs. I’m prioritising linking and citation, even though I don’t know if they matter anymore when AI strips them away. (Wait until you see the bibliography for this zine!) I’m building for a web that might not survive, because doing nothing feels worse.
