The story always stuck in my head. It resonated with my sense of independence and admiration for people who stand up to bullying ruling classes. You can find spite houses – also known as nail houses and holdouts – wherever and whenever there’s growth. People who refuse to give up and somehow manage to keep their home standing while everything changes around them.
