The Hammer: Power, Inequality, and the Struggle for the Soul of Labor Highlight

posted on in: Quote.

It is painfully clear to anyone in their right mind that the state is in dire need of both public investment and an increase in the power of workers to improve their own wages. The Republican determination to do the exact opposite of those things is less a reasoned policy choice than a bootlicking, quasi-religious belief in fundamentalist coal boss worship. For the past century, the major share of the state’s natural wealth has been sucked out by corporations and investors who do not live there, leaving the citizens who do live there with crumbs. Crumbs can get you a biscuit. But people want more.
